We’re looking for graduates who want to bring their passion and skills to a business that makes a real difference to the lives of Australians.

At TAL, there’s no limit to where your career can go. We only take a small number of graduates each year, so they’re highly sought-after right across the business. Graduates work alongside industry thought leaders with support from dedicated sponsors, buddies and career managers.

Our program is designed to help graduates be the best they can be. We believe in challenging you.

The two-year TAL graduate program has been designed to challenge graduates by immersing them in four key areas of our business, both within their field of study and beyond, ensuring they gain a holistic view of our business across the entire life insurance lifecycle.

We provide development pathways tailored to your goals, to help you gain the skills you need to grow. This includes support for further related study and professional qualifications, where relevant, e.g., Actuarial Education Assistance, FSAA of the IAA and CA, plus study and exam leave.

Have you got what it takes to join Australia’s leading life insurance specialist? Be part of a selective program developing our future leaders.

We embrace diversity and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. Our application process can be modified to meet specific needs. Please let us know if you require support.

Sustainability

At TAL, our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Strategy and framework formally supports our commitment to acting in a socially responsible and ethical manner and making a positive contribution to social and environmental issues for the benefit of our customers, partners, our people and the community.

TAL is a signatory to the United Nations' Principles for Sustainable Insurance, and we are committed to minimising our impact on the environment through our business operations and the investments we make for the benefit of all communities. Through our ESG framework we have assessed our carbon footprint and have offset our operational emissions, meaning that we are now certified as carbon neutral. All of our office buildings score highly on the National Australian Built Environment System (NABERS).

Our ESG Strategy focuses on 5 core pillars:

  • Climate Change and Environment
TAL will minimise our impact on the planet and contribute to reducing the impact of climate change for the benefits of all communities.
  • Wellbeing and Mental Health
TAL is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our customers and people.
  • Governance and Reporting
TAL is committed to effective ESG Risk Management and holding ourselves to account to be a more sustainable business.
  • ESG Investing
TAL will invest for a sustainable future for the benefit of our customers, partners, and society.
  • Social Equality
TAL will contribute to social equality through financial inclusion, providing assistance to all customers to access insurance and the support they need, and by insuring that people at TAL are treated equally.

TAL Community Foundation

Through a coordinated approach of initiatives, the TAL Community Foundation has created a space for giving, interacting, sharing and connecting with each other and the community with the aim of making meaningful impact on social and community issues and support employee involvement in the community. The Community Foundation is an important pillar at TAL; contributes to our culture and builds a positive people experience.

The Foundation has three key focus areas and over $6M in cash has been invested to support initiatives within these:

  • youth overcoming disadvantage,
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and
  • positive mental wellbeing.

Over the past 5 years, TAL has been humbled to work with our valued community partners providing not only our organisation but also our people opportunities to make a positive difference within the Australian community. Our partners provide our people the opportunity to deepen their connection to the cause with activities such as one off mentoring programs with school students and young people, to supporting education in remote communities in the Northern Territory.

  • The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS)
  • National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy (NASCA),
  • Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN)
  • Orygen.

We want to help our people support community causes. That's why we offer a paid community leave day each year to help the community. Over the past 5 years, TAL people have donated over 12,000 volunteering hours in short mentoring programs.

Through our Fundraising Matching Program we will match all employee funds raised to double the difference you make for your chosen charity or community group.

"Having joined TAL as part of the Graduate cohort of 2020, the opportunity to join the TAL Community Foundation Council is incredibly exciting.
Whether it is donating time or money, volunteering has always been an extremely important aspect of my life. I am fortunate to have joined a company that places such a high emphasis on giving back, and I am especially looking forward to ensuring we leave a positive mark on Australian communities."

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The culture. The people at work are all extremely friendly and have a lot of time for Grads. On top of this, they also don't treat you like grads, so you get work that will challenge you.
  • Lots of opportunities and support for graduates; focus on development and tailoring to individual objectives Friendly and approachable people in all areas of the business who are always happy to share their insights
  • TAL has a great culture; they have been particularly supportive of staff wellbeing throughout lockdown periods. The rotations have given me exposure to a range of roles within the organisation.
  • Nothing of major concern. Workload and number of meetings have been quite high but I take it all as a learning opportunity.
  • Work-load. We have a high-performing culture, which is great but can mean that workload and pressure can get quite significant.
  • Potentially the opportunities for working in global locations and pay not being competitive.

Be more involved and join more societies. As an introvert, I often shied away from joining societies which I wish I had the courage to do as it could lead to lifelong connections and experiences.
